On September 18 and 23rd, we put up two different postings regarding the death of Kelly Smith in Pocatello, ID- Another company gets cited by OSHA...(bit.ly/4xqURc )and Worker dies in tragic trench accident-hazards & stats...(bit.ly/VzH8C ). Smith was killed after a 10-foot deep trench collapsed on him. It has now been released that Smith died from what is called compression asphyxia. In other words, he suffocated to death. Detective Andy Thomas says the amount of dirt that fell on top of this man was equivalent to a dump truck full of dirt. In our original posting, we reported that Smith was working outside of the trench box and that OSHA had to investigate the accident. KPVI News states that the company might face high OSHA fines if "the soil may have been considered class "c" which means the dirt had been dug up before, creating a more unstable working environment."
