Workers exposed to gas leak: kills one and injures four

On September 10, five workers, employed by Chipco Oil and Gas Well Services, were working on a gas rig ,where they were preparing to cap the well when they were exposed to the poisonous hydrogen-sulfide gas mixture, commonly referred to as “poison gas” or “sour gas.” Three workers were transported by emergency crews to Cambridge hospital for treatment of their injuries. Another worker was airlifted by helicopter to another hospital in Ohio. It is unknown if the fifth worker died at the scene of the gas leak or was also transported to a hospital by emergency crews. One of the victums is said to be in critical condition.

"It happens all over. It's something they're trained to deal with but, sometimes it happens so fast that their protective clothing doesn't warn them quick enough and they're unable to deal with it," said Antrim Volunteer Fire Department Chief Don Warnock. Officials added that the men were wearing the proper meters to check for gas.
